Special Educational Needs

We are all unique and what makes us unique needs to be nurtured

 Our Local Offer:

We provide an environment in which all children are supported to reach their full potential. We have regard for the DFES Special Educational Needs Code of Practice 2015 and the Disability and Discrimination Act 1995 (Equality Act 2010). We include all children who attend the setting in our provision, making adaptations where necessary. We provide highly skilled practitioners to support children with special educational needs/disabilities. We identify the specific needs of children with SEN/disabilities and meet those needs using a range of strategies.

Our staff use Wellcomm assessments and Makaton, we have recently introduced “sign of the week” where all of our children can learn a new sign and share with their families at home.

Our SENCo (special educational needs coordinator) is Carol. And our Deputy SENCo is Nicola.

Carol is the best person to talk to if you have any concerns regarding your child’s development.

Carol has previously worked in Family Support and Child Health and is also a key person within the setting. You can contact Carol using our preschool email address or telephone number should you have any further questions regarding the support we provide. You can also view our Special Educational Needs policy on our website for further information.

We work with outside agencies to support children with additional needs and implement strategies and activities as required. In these circumstances we will always work closely with the parents and make sure they are kept up to date and involved in the plans we have put in place and that we have their consent.

We strongly believe in working in partnership with parents and carers and regularly keep our families up to date using online learning journeys, regular parent consultations and end of year reports. Martlesham Preschool follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum to plan and provide a range of activities across the 7 areas of learning and development.

Through the key person system, each child’s learning is tailored to their specific need and interests. At Martlesham we use an online app called Tapestry, both key person and parents can share their child’s learning and development through this app.
