What to expect:
Whether you have been on an Early Years Journey before or if this is your first time, you may have so many questions going around in your head, trying to work out what is best for your child and your family. This document just gives you a little bit more information as to how we will be supporting your child’s learning and development and an insight in how we will communicate this with you. You can find some more in-depth information into the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ at: https://foundationyears.org.uk/files/2021/09/What-to-expect-in-the-EYFS-complete-FINAL-16.09-compressed.pdf
Ofsted Inspections:
Martlesham Preschool is inspected regularly by OFSTED to assess the quality of its provision. Our last inspection was 25th April 2025. Our OFSTED number is EY415425, and you can visit the Ofsted website to read more about Martlesham Preschool.
Uniform:
At preschool we offer the option to purchase uniform for your child. As we know learning and having fun can be a messy business, so this is a great way of saving your own clothes. The children can also feel quite ‘grown up’ in their preschool uniform and it aids the transition to full time school where many schools wear a uniform.
We offer:
· navy t-shirts with the preschool logo
· navy sweatshirts with the preschool logo
· navy drawstring bag with the preschool logo
Uniform is by no means compulsory but from experience many parents have found it makes life easier to have a ‘preschool’ set. The bags are a great option to leave on their peg at preschool with plenty of spare clothes in.
Our uniform is available to purchase directly from preschool. Sweatshirts are priced at £16.00 and T Shirts are priced at £10.00. Purchases will be invoiced to you via Tapestry. We hold samples at preschool, please ask if you would like to have a look or check sizing.
Kit List:
Here at Martlesham Preschool we believe children learn best through play, exploration and firsthand experiences. This often means getting wet or messy. We actively encourage the children to explore their environment, including things like jumping in puddles to see what happens! We believe that these joyful moments help build the natural curiosity that children have, resulting in building their confidence and supporting their learning in exciting ways. Because of this approach to learning it does mean we may need some changes of clothes throughout the day. We don’t have many spare clothes available at preschool so having the items that are listed below in the child’s bag would be a huge help.
· At least two full changes of weather appropriate clothes (including vests, underwear and socks) with additional sets of clothing for those children who are potty training.
· A named coat appropriate for the weather
· A named waterproof all in one
· Named wellies or spare shoes
· Named suncream if they are unable to use preschool’s
· Named sun hat for warm weather
· Named warm hat and gloves for cold weather
· A named drink’s bottle
· A named lunch bag/box for those children staying for lunch
· Named wipes and at least 4 nappies for those children still in nappies
It would be helpful if spare clothes are placed in a named plastic bag so any items we change can be placed back in this bag to ensure the right clothes get back to the correct child. This also supports us in protecting the planet and minimizing the amount of single use plastic we put into the environment.
Thank you for supporting our learning through play to give the children freedom to investigate and most importantly have fun every day!
You can order name stickers from various companies including https://www.mynametags.com/ and using ID 17608. Ordering from this website earns the preschool commission which will go towards new resources.

Our Committee:
Martlesham Preschool is run by a committee of volunteers, and is also a registered charity. As dictated by the constitution 60% of the committee must be made of parents or guardians of children attending our preschool. Each year the committee carries out a vote at our AGM. We need to have a preschool management committee of no less than 5 people in order to remain open.
Positions within the committee include, 'Chair', 'Secretary', 'Treasurer' and 'Safeguarding Lead'. You can also join as a general member. We have committee meetings at least once every term. These meetings are a lovely opportunity to come along and get involved in our small community preschool and to get a sense of what we are all about.
Our chairperson is contactable via email: Martleshampreschoolchairperson@outlook.com
